Radar gives a continuous profile of ice thickness on measurement line. The measurement data can be presented either with colours on a map, as a table or as a profile. In addition to ice thickness measurements on ice roads, it’s also possible to get the first picture about ice thickness in a wider area – the radar measures along a zigzag profile between the edges of the chosen corridor. This kind of measurement gives an overview of the distribution of areas with thicker and thinner ice cover. If the ice condition is unknown, it’s safer to fix the radar behind the snowmobile or on the ATV for preliminary measurements.
